DC charging cable - Phoenix Contact

DC charging cable

For many electric vehicle users, the process of charging is still a time-sonsuming experience and an obstacle to the full enjoyment of environmentally-friendly driving. Quicker charging can eliminate this obstacle and provide drivers with an easy usage experience. Phoenix Contact provides the DC charging cables to enable this improvement.

Longer journeys made easy

Driving an electric vehicle over longer distances becomes significantly more convenient with Phoenix Contact DC charging cables. They enable safe, quick and efficient DC charging on the road and are the ideal solution for quick charging stops on longer journeys. DC charging is a method by which power is transmitted at a high level, allowing for quick charging processes within a short time. The charging cables are designed to comply with the requirements and specifications in all major markets and are built to provide safe conditions for charging. They provide the necessary vehicle connector as well as an open cable end that can be used in charging stations with an AC/DC converter.

Safety and convenience

Phoenix Contact DC charging cables have been designed with safety in mind. They allow for easy handling and come equipped with sensors that provide precise temperature monitoring at the power contacts, so that overheating is avoided. A locking mechanism ensures that the connector cannot be pulled out while it is under load, preventing potentially hazardous situations from happening.

A wide range of advantages

  • Enables quick and convenient DC charging
  • Easy and convenient handling with ergonomically optimized handle and rubber grip components
  • Safe charging thanks to temperature monitoring and locking mechanism
  • Complete range to meet all regional requirements (CCS type 1, CCS type 2, GB/T standards)
  • Manufactured in accordance with IATF 16949 and ISO 9001

Meeting specification requirements in all major markets

Phoenix Contact DC charging cables have been designed to meet all regional requirements and specifications prevalent in major electric vehicle markets.

DC charging cables for North America are of CCS type 1 and enable DC charging according to regulations set forth in SAE J1772 and IEC 62196-3. They come with UL-certification both for the AWG cable and the vehicle connector, with the built-in safety measure of a locking mechanism to prevent pulling the connector out when under load.

  • 60 A / 600 V DC (AWG)
  • 125 A / 600 V DC (AWG)

Since 2013, Type 2 has been specified as the standard in fast charging by the European Commission. Following this specification, DC charging cables for Europe also use the Combined Charging System CCS to provide the possibility for both AC and DC charging. They are equipped with an electromechanical locking actuator, are VDE-certified and comply with the IEC 62196-3 standard.

  • 60 A / 1000 V DC (metric)
  • 125 A / 1000 V DC (metric)
  • 200 A / 1000 V DC (metric)

To enable fast charging within the Chinese system, DC charging cables for China are manufactured to comply with GB/T 20234.3-2015. Here, the locking mechanism in the vehicle connector is controlled by the chraging station and prevents actuation of the vehicle connector while charging.

  • 80 A / 750 V DC (metric)
  • 125 A / 750 V DC (metric)
  • 250 A / 750 V DC (metric)
